What is 3D Printing?

3D printing, also known as Additive Manufacturing is the process of making 3d objects (Three-dimensional physical objects) from CAD models. 3d printing gives you the power to convert your ideas into a fully functional Prototype and that’s how it began in the late 80’s – a ‘rapid-prototyping machine’, However, a lot has changed and today 3D printers offer amazing results and let you create anything you can imagine.

How does 3D printing work?

Unlike traditional subtractive manufacturing, 3D printing is called additive manufacturing because 3D printing doesn’t remove material, it adds up layer after layer eventually forming an object.

In order to print something, first you’ll need a 3D model or a 3D design of the object you want to create, which you can design in a 3D modeling program (CAD – Computer Aided Design), or use a 3D scanner to scan the object you want to print. Once your design’s ready, all you need to do is import it into third-party slicing software. It will then turn your design into a gcode file ready to be printed as a physical object. Simply save your file onto our cloud storage or USB stick and insert it into our Duper 3dPrinter and press print.

Although there are several 3D printing technologies, most of them create the object by laying down many successive thin layers of material. Usually, desktop 3D printers use plastic filaments which are fed into the printer by the feeder. The filament is melted in the print head which extrudes the material onto the build plate creating your object layer by layer. Once the printer starts printing, all you have to do is wait – it’s that easy.

What can you do with 3D printing?

The possibilities of 3D printers are endless, and they’re now becoming a commonplace tool in fields like rapid prototyping, engineering, product design, medical, architecture, gifting, packaging, research & education.  Here are some typical uses:

How is 3D Printing used?

3D printing is being used to create everything from 3D printed MRI scans to functional prototypes, teaching aids to concept models – reliably and cost-effectively to building complex architectural models not only 3d Printed but mechanically movable. autoAbode’s specializes in delivering unique solutions to every industry thus empowering lives everywhere.
